i just noticed that lastfms weekly statistics

I just noticed that Last.fm’s weekly statistics show the entirety of Radiohead’s new 10-track album, In Rainbows, occupying the top 10 tracks across their entire userbase. Not only that, but the tracks appear in the list in the exact same order as on the album (i.e., track 1 has most listeners, track 2 slightly less, etc.) Based on the number of unique listeners (top figures), and assuming anyone who reached the 10th track listened to each other track at least once at some point, we can conclude that 83.5% of Last.fm users who gave the album a try ended up listening to it all the way through at least once.
You can see it here. (Edit: occurred to me Last.fm might also have some commentary. And so they do.)

Uses an annoying custom ‘updater’ to install, requires root privileges for no good reason, and doesn’t respect your existing installation location. Aside from that, looks good.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Radiohead - In Rainbows
In case you somehow haven’t heard by now, Radiohead’s new album will be released this morning (UK time - it’s already the 10th there). For now it’s download-only, 160kbps MP3s (no DRM), and you can pay any price you wish for it, including £0.00. No strings attached. For real.
I really liked Hail To The Thief (does that mean I’m not a real fan? Unsure on this. Oh well) and I’ve heard a live performance of Videotape and so I’m really looking forward to this.
A special edition vinyl + double CD package will follow in December for £40, with a traditional mass-market CD sometime next year.

Should we ever need to move facilities in the future, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs, we will just build out the new facility in its entirety, move all the services between the two live facilities, and then burn down the old one for the insurance money.

Well, perhaps Amazon can find a book or something about how to build a successful high-volume online store.

A system similar to CAPTCHA, except instead of trying to make sure you’re a human, it tries to make sure you actually read the entry before you comment. Interesting idea.
